About

What We Do

The Mile High Nordic Ski Education Foundation is an all-volunteer group that maintains ski trails in the Butte and Anaconda area. The Foundation promotes ski education through ‘Learn to Ski Days’ and helps teach and fund a youth ski program at Homestake Lodge.

How We Are Funded

The Foundation generates operating funds from membership dues, an annual Ski Ball, donations from the public, grants with matching volunteer labor and sale of surplus equipment.

How We Operate

The Foundation can always use new board members and volunteers. Please consider joining the Foundation and becoming a board member. There are many opportunities for volunteering.

Our History

Jack Gilluly of Anaconda wrote an article about Mount Haggin’s ski trails that appeared in the December 1991 edition of Montana Magazine. This article provides an interesting overview of the history of the Mount Haggin ski area.

An impressive collection of historical photos below give a glimpse into the logging operations that occurred in the Mount Haggin area in the early 1900s and is a good companion to Gilluly’s article. Click on each image to read a description.
